INTERNET
WIRE AND eGROUPS.COM INK DEAL
Companies Join Forces to Create Communities Catering to Journalists, News Enthusiasts and
Public Relations Professionals
07/20/99--Internet Wire (www.internetwire.com), the industry's leading Internet-based
press release distribution service, today announced that it is entering into an agreement
with eGroups.com (www.egroups.com), the Internet's most comprehensive group communication
service. The two companies intend to partner to create free co-branded forums for
journalists, public relations professionals and news enthusiasts.
"Internet Wire has been a pioneer in communicating to the media since the early days
of the Web, so naturally we are pleased to help them move into the community space through
the use of our products," said Martin Roscheisen, co-founder and CEO of eGroups.com.
"The areas targeted by Internet Wire eGroups should prove to be popular and highly
useful to those communities."
The Internet Wire eGroup shared communities will debut under four categories: journalists,
public relations professionals, news enthusiasts and trade show attendees. Each community
will be initially introduced to members of the Internet Wire distribution list, although
anyone can log on to www.internetwire.com or egroups.com to join a community.
The journalism community will address a number of subject areas, ranging from Y2K issues
to Internet trends and journalism ethics. The public relations professionals community
will include areas such as high tech, online marketing, entertainment public relations and
investor relations. Each community can create a virtual association which would require no
dues, yet would offer a community akin to that of a national organization. Internet Wire
also plans to develop certain forums in conjunction with national and regional
associations.
Communities will be developed as a means for representatives of trade shows in the
technology, financial and entertainment industries to allow attendees to keep in touch
with contacts after the show. Finally, a community will be developed targeting news
enthusiasts in various vertical and specialty markets. In this arena, Internet Wire and
eGroups will be kicking off the first email group for music fans shortly after the
iWireMusic launch. Companies will be given the opportunity to start a free email group
when they put out a press release with Internet Wire (see iWireMusic and additional
eGroups release.)
Joint forums also will be created to facilitate interaction between public relations
professionals and journalists on matters of mutual interest. For example, journalists will
be given the opportunity to post information about upcoming articles or request research
information on various topics. Each Internet Wire eGroup will be an
all-inclusive area that will comprise data files, group correspondence, pictures and files
available for download.
"We have been searching for a long time for a way to bring enhanced interactions
between the various communities that rely on Internet Wire every day," commented
Michael Shuler, co-founder and COO of Internet Wire. "We chose eGroups because they
combine a variety of interactive platforms that otherwise would have taken five different
providers and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop on our own."
