Summer McStravick
Editor, typesetter, and graphic designer, Summer McStravick is the owner
of Artichoke Editing & Print Design, which combines desktop publishing with
comprehensive editing services to help individual authors, self-publishing authors, and
small to midsize publishers develop print-ready materials.
Mrs. McStravick has worked as an
editor, typesetter, and designer for nine years, having nimbly ushered handwritten scrawl
(in a few cases!) to typed manuscript to finished book, screenplay, or catalog with nary a
break. Fully adept with grammar and helpful to authors needing "just the right
words," she strives to bridge the gap between author and publisher, helping both get
their needs met. She is particularly fond of working with small presses, the
self-publishing author, and the yet-to-be-published author.
She has edited, designed and
facilitated production of books, booklets, press releases, query letters, standard author
submission packets, brochures, catalogs, ad copy, order forms, product labels and
packaging, and much more. Books she has designed and edited can be found on the shelves of
Barnes & Noble, Crown Books, Amazon.com, and at bookstores worldwide.
Mrs. McStravick holds a B.A. in
English and Writing from the University of California, San Diego, graduating summa cum
laude with departmental distinction. She is also the proud recipient of the 1998 Dr.
Milton S. Saier Memorial Award for Fiction and Poetry as well as the 1997 Stewart Prize in
Literature. She holds a Professional Certificate in Copyediting from UCSD.
She can be reached at her
office in Encinitas, California at (760) 632-9268 PST or through e-mail at editing@artichokepublishing.com or http://www.artichokepublishing.com
Client Comments
"I'm still going. Still
working. Still dreaming. Still making it better and better and better. And yes, I am still
working my way through your comments and making the necessary adjustments. And yes, your
brilliance continues to astound me! People have asked me, "What do you need an editor
for?" After reviewing your work/comments/suggestions and improvements I can only tell
them, "Summer has helped me SHINE!" With your awesome input this is actually a
project I will be so very proud of when completed. I just wanted to tell you that I felt
your contribution to my life has been phenomenal and for that I will always be
grateful." Darnella Ford, author of Electra Rising

"Summer, I just picked up my
booklets and I love them. I know I could not have done it without you! Your advice and
attention to all the details, especially coordinating everything with the printer for me,
really made completing this project easy! It is a rare treat to work with a professional
of your caliber. Until the next project." Kate Schultz, author of "110

"Summer was fast to edit and
offer suggestions every step of the way. Her services designing and editing were extensive
and time sensitive. Her fees were very reasonable and competitive. Due to the high quality
of the finished product I got from Summer, I would have gladly paid her more than she
quoted me. Anyone who wants an editor and design specialist who is pleasant to work with,
fast, and accurate, needs to give Summer a call and seriously consider using her for their
project! She is the best editor and desktop publishing person with whom I have ever
worked. I recommend her services highly." Dennis Tesdell, author of "133
