E-ZINES 101: An Introduction to
Ezines and Email Marketing

What is an E-Zine?

The word E-Zine is an abbreviation for the term Electronic Magazine. An E-Zine is an email newsletter. An E-Zine is mailed directly to your email inbox. You do not have to GO to the E-Zine, the E-Zine comes to you.

A Web Zine, on the other hand, is a magazine that is published on the Web. A Web Zine may contain graphics and color and look much the same as a printed magazine. However, the consumer must go to the Website to read the magazine.

Web Zines are not delivered directly to readers. The key to the success of the E-Zine is the delivery method. An E-Zine represents a combination of the best traditional marketing tactics with the best of Internet communication tools. E-Zines are your very own Push Technology. By publishing an E-Zine, you deliver YOUR news directly to your customers and prospects.

Once your E-Zine is delivered, your readers can take action, at any time, by visiting your Website, or responding to your ads online.

History of Email Marketing

Early in the development of Internet Marketing, Email was identified as a powerful, low-cost tool anyone could use to reach millions of people quickly. As a result, the practice of bulk emailing developed as a marketing tool. As the number of people online increased, the number of bulk emailers also increased.

Bulk Email - What Is It?

Bulk email is, quite simply, sending your email message or announcement to a large number of email addresses. The purpose of using bulk email is to get your message in front of as many people as possible.

SPAM - What Is It?

SPAM is unsolicited, unwanted and unwelcome email. So, what's the big deal about Spam? The most common complaints about SPAM fall under these categories:

#1 - FRAUD - Oftentimes, Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE) messages are delivered by trying to disguise the origin of the message. Why the need to disguise where the message came from? Sounds kinda suspicious, doesn't it?

#2 - WASTE - A SPAM message sent to millions of people is carried through many systems to get to each destination. The systems in the middle end up carrying the load and the cost for SPAM.

#3 - ANNOYANCE - Sifting through SPAM is annoying and a waste of time. Trying to get removed from mailing lists is often another exercise in futility!

#4 - ETHICS - SPAM is associated with fraud, deceit and abuse. Do you want to be associated with this type of business practice?
